With the Pisa Card, you can create your own itinerary through museums, collections, monuments and cultural sites across Pisa’s historic centre.

To help you plan your visit, we have prepared a suggested urban route that can be followed either on foot or by bicycle.

The itinerary starts at the Walls of Pisa, in the Piazza dei Miracoli area, crosses the historic centre and the Arno riverfronts, and ends at Palazzo Blu on the southern bank of the river.

The itinerary stops

The route follows this order:

1. Walls of Pisa – Torre Santa Maria entrance; 

2. Botanical Garden and Museum; 

3. Museum of the Ancient Ships; 

4. Royal Palace; 

5. Edda Bresciani Egyptian Collections; 

6. National Museum of San Matteo; 

7. Museum of Graphic Arts; 

8. Palazzo Blu. 

On the map, the marker sequence is:

6 → 5 → 4 → 7 → 1 → 3 → 2 → 8

The route has been designed to reduce unnecessary detours and limit the number of river crossings.

Walking itinerary

Walking allows you to explore the historic centre at a relaxed pace, enjoy its squares, follow the Lungarni and gradually reach the cultural sites included in the Pisa Card.

The estimated walking time between all stops is approximately:

75–90 minutes

This estimate only covers travel time and does not include museum visits, breaks or waiting times.

To visit all eight locations properly, we recommend spreading the itinerary over several parts of the day or over two days, after checking the opening days and times of each site.

Cycling itinerary

The same itinerary can also be followed by bicycle.

The estimated cycling time between all stops is approximately:

25–35 minutes

In the busiest parts of the historic centre, cyclists should proceed carefully and may need to walk their bicycle for short sections.

Pisa Card holders can use the button in their purchase confirmation email to request promotional codes for a free one-day CicloPi bike-sharing pass through the Weelo app.

One itinerary, many possibilities

You can follow the complete itinerary or use it as a guide to select only some of the stops.

One possible way to divide the route is:

First section

• Walls of Pisa; 

• Botanical Garden and Museum; 

• Museum of the Ancient Ships; 

• Royal Palace. 

Second section

• Edda Bresciani Egyptian Collections; 

• National Museum of San Matteo; 

• Museum of Graphic Arts; 

• Palazzo Blu. 

This allows you to alternate museum visits with a walk through the historic centre and along the Arno.

The Certosa of Calci

The Monumental Complex of the Certosa of Calci is included in the Pisa Card, but it is not part of the urban itinerary because it is located outside Pisa city centre.

A visit to the Certosa therefore requires a separate journey and should be planned independently.

• review any specific admission information; 

• keep your Pisa Card QR Code available on your phone; 

• consult the map and select the stops that best suit the time available.
